About Park the Artist

Park Fine Art is the retail outlet for my abstract paintings.  Decades ago, I began formal oil painting lessons as a child. Since then, my creative journey has included oil and acrylic painting, and mixed media such as textiles, organic materials like moss and grass, cording and other non-traditional art materials. Today, most of my work is in acrylics. 

My creative process begins in either a concentration of colors or an idea of movement of paint. Although I usually work from a vague mental image, my process is very intuitive. First, I lay a foundational (underpainting) layer of paint on canvas. This will be followed by many other layers that will usually move a painting away from my original idea. As I add layers of paint, my pieces evolve into paintings that may have no resemblance to my original vision, and that's ok. Why? Because I embrace the belief that great abstract artists are not inventors of art but channels through which art is expressed into being. I attempt to detach from rigid ideas to allow creativity to develop without fixed impressions of what a work must be. My work evolves freely, outside the constraints of form and reality. 

My studio is located in a vibrant art community in Houston's thriving Arts District. This environment is an integral part of  my ongoing development as an artist. I continue to study my craft with accomplished painters to further evolve my technique and perspective. I embrace acceptance, goodness, and forgiveness in life, and strive to create art that will move the spirit to joy and renewal.
